The Alumni Park project at UNSW Kensington is a redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming the eastern end of the university’s main campus. The project involves the creation of a new public space that will celebrate the university’s heritage and provide a vibrant and welcoming environment for students, staff, alumni, and the broader community. The design of the park at the UNSW Kensington campus includes a major element focused on re-introducing the critically endangered Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS). This involves the planting of selected species such as Banksia serrata, Baeckea imbricata, Dichelachne crinita, Dillwynia retorta and Pimilea linifolia, which were grown and supplied by the First Nation nursery Indigigrow. The park also features existing and newly planted paperbark trees that provide shade and a cool microclimate for the area. Indigenous artwork and engravings, produced collaboratively by various Indigenous artists and elders, are also integrated into the design. Additionally, the park celebrates the achievements of UNSW alumni through bronze plaques along the central spine called Alumni Walk.
