“Moondani Balluk is a culturally safe and supportive place for Aboriginal students and staff at Victoria University. Moondani Balluk means ‘embrace people’ in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people.” – Moondani Balluk
At Victoria University, Moondani Balluk stands as the cultural heart, embodying the essence of connection, innovation, and shared knowledge. Regal Innovations, in collaboration with REALM Studio, has transformed this space into a landscape that honors the Wurundjeri people's heritage and the spirit of Country.
The redesign of the Moondani Balluk Courtyard focuses on a deconstructed civic space, moving away from conventional landscaping. Impermeable pavements were removed to enhance water movement and penetration, fostering a more natural environment. The use of gravels, boulders, and bluestone paving, with a central yarning circle, reflects the site’s natural topography and cultural significance.
This functional and evocative space encourages connections among staff and students, celebrating Indigenous knowledge and traditions. The project exemplifies respect, inclusivity, and the enduring spirit of First Nations People, providing a unique place for learning, celebration, and connection on Country.
We are proud to have facilitated REALM Studio's vision, creating a dynamic environment that will grow and evolve with the Victoria University community.
